I attended PS 40 in the 1950s; I don't remember the gargoyles, which may be a good thing. They are rather terrifying. Interesting pictures, interesting subject, but I do wonder why they were used as ornaments on a school that was intended to house small children (K-6).
That's a very good point. The first gargoyle pictured is very creepy! Seeing that one as a kid, I would have had nightmares every night.
